Prince Tributes On Awards Shows

I personally have been underwhelmed with the Prince tributes on the 2016 Billboard Music Awards, and the BET Awards 2016.  The best one so far is the Sheila E tribute from the BET Awards.

I get it….Stevie Wonder, Jennifer Hudson, Janelle Monae, and the other performers are great artists in their own right, but the essence of Prince was missing.  That is what Sheila E brought to the table.  We needed performers who had a connection to Prince.  At the very least, we needed performers that recorded his songs.

What about Chaka Khan

Tevin Campbell, who recorded three songs written by Prince

Where was The Time at?

Sheena Easton needed to be there to sing a little bit

Sheila E played a little of this, but Ms. Easton needed to be out there

We can even dust off Melissa Morgan to perform her number one single

All of this could have been backed by the Revolution.  I would have loved to have a Jesse Johnson solo, and if he sang Little Red Corvette, that would have been the icing on the cake!

This is just my wish-list on the matter.  I am sure you have your own lineup, but I think mine would be a great 30 minute tribute.  A real stage show.  As I said earlier, the Sheila E performance was on point, but BET could have done better.
